ACE cores. The Army Corps of Engineers Passaic River Diversionary Tunnel cores were drilled in the northern Newark basin mostly along the proposed route of the tunnel, which was to divert flood waters from the upper Passaic River to an outlet in Newark Bay. Note that the spacing of drill sites is closer in the basalt units and interbedded sedimentary formations compared to that in the Passaic Formation. Modified from Schlische (1992).
