How did you decide on your major?

The Earth has always been infatuating to me. From an early age, I was always fascinated by the seemingly magical ways that the Earth functioned-- how it was constantly changing and yet was always the same. Geology was the perfect way for me to gain an understanding of all of the things I had always been curious about. The major is so multifaceted and exposed me to so many amazing aspects of Earth history, our current Earth, and what impact I could have on the Earth's future.

What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?

The geology department here at Rutgers is such an inviting community of interesting people. I have gotten to know some of my best friends here in this department! Everyone is always willing to help and support you in any way they can. There are so many different paths that you can take within geology and having the opportunity to try on every discipline for size, with the guidance of faculty, has allowed me to really narrow my interests and get an idea of what I want to pursue in the future.

Do you have a favorite class/professor within your major?

My favorite class so far has been Sedimentary Geology with Dr. Ashley and Dr. Browning. The course includes the disciplines of sedimentology and stratigraphy. For me, this class really connected the small and large scale disciplines of geology to create a really unique and complete view of geology. I loved being able to connect the theory with practical exercises and get to see the bigger picture and real life applications of what I am learning.

What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?

One of my favorite academic experiences outside of geology has been being apart of the Douglass Women's College. Douglass provides so many opportunities for academic support, guidance, and networking. I've met so many fellow students and staff members who have really impacted my academic career in so many positive ways!

What are your other Rutgers activities?

Here at Rutgers, I am currently the secretary of the geology club, as well as member of the astrology club. I love to participate in intramural volleyball during the fall semester with my friends and enjoy attending the Writers at Rutgers Reading Series featuring prominent and upcoming authors and poets. And of course, I love supporting Rutgers football every saturday in the fall!

What are your plans following graduation?

Following graduation, I am hoping to move westward and pursue a career in environmental remediation.
