Shaunna Morrison served on NASA’s Martian Dust Limit Working Group, which evaluated a proposed crew exposure standard for martian dust during future human exploration missions. Convened by NASA’s Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer, the panel reviewed evidence from Mars rover geochemical and mineralogical datasets, martian regolith simulants, lunar dust toxicology, and mission-design considerations. The working group supported a conservative exposure limit for respirable martian dust and provided recommendations on dust chemistry, short-duration exposure spikes, and future research priorities. The resulting requirement is intended for incorporation into NASA-STD-3001, NASA’s Spaceflight Human-System Standard.
