Sean Kinney and David Tibbits have been awarded a research grant for their project titled "Development of Amateur-Academic Networks through Geochronology Educational Exhibits at Major Gem Shows." The AGeS-TRaCE Program has a competitive application process, and Sean and David's project was recognized and received support for their research proposal. The purpose of the project is to facilitate the development of collaborative amateur-expert networks in geochronology. As a part of the recruitment effort for this initiative, David will be constructing a series of traveling educational exhibits for mineral shows focused on minerals used in geochronology, different decay systems, and examples of important problems that can be approached through radiometric dating. Kinney and David will also be building an online community resource that they hope will facilitate interactions between amateur collectors/property owners and academic researchers.
