Giovanni Muttoni and Dennis Kent recently published an analysis of the spatiotemporal distribution of hominin points to coincidence of a population bottleneck from genomics with the principal migration out of Africa during the Early Pleistocene ice age transition. A significant departure from current thinking is that earliest hominin fossils found at Dmanisi in Central Asia are only about 900,000 years old.
