Congratulations to graduating senior, Journey Berry, who has been selected to receive the 2023 SAS Outstanding Service Award. This award is given to graduating students who, during their undergraduate years, have demonstrated strong scholarship and extraordinary service and/or leadership to local, national, and global communities; the University; or its students. Journey was nominated for her work as an instructor, peer-mentor, and guide to the Inspiring Girls Expedition Program. This program brings young females on free geologic expeditions to amazing locations around the world for once-in-a-lifetime field experiences. Through her involvement with the “Girls on Ice in Alaska” program, Journey has helped empower many young women through science, art, and outdoor exploration. She was also recognized for her STEM education and outreach work at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the Rutgers University Geology Museum for tirelessly working to engage the next generation of geoscientists.
