Congratulations to Jackie Watters who earned an honorable mention from the National Science Foundation for her proposal to the Graduate Research Fellowship Program titled, "Thermophysical and morphological characteristics of spatial co-occurrence of chaos terrain and hydrothermal mineral alteration in the Eridania Basin, Mars." Jackie's proposal focused on the examining spectroscopic hydrothermal mineral detections on Mars as a possible indicator of the presence of past liquid water. This work will evaluate the ability of thermal inertia, topographic, and imagery data to predict the occurrence of hydrothermal alteration mineral detections on the surface of Mars.
