This Class will focus on stable isotope systems (examples: H to S and Transition Metals) in the environment and the processes that change their abundances. The class will be roughly half lecture/discussion, 25% problem solving and 25% lab exercises. Students will design a project aimed at demonstrating fundamental principles that will include “hands-on” operation of the stable isotope mass spectrometers and present their findings. The problem sets and measurements are designed to reinforce the lectures. We welcome students with interests in Paleoceanography, Environmental Geochemistry, Hydrology, Anthropology, Archeology, and Forensic Science.
