Sequence Stratigraphy

Prof. K.G. Miller. Principles of sequence stratigraphy and its relationship to relative sea-level change and eustatic history.

Syllabus

The primary focus of this course will be to allow "hands on" interpretation of three seismic stratigraphic data sets: 1) the upper Pleistocene-Recent high-resolution single channel seismic (SCS) data from the Barnegat Inlet Area (Ashley et al., in press); 2) Exxon Production Research (EPR) multichannel seismic (MCS) data from the New Jersey continental shelf which best images middle Miocene sequences (Greenlee et al., submitted); and 3) Ewing 90-09 MCS data collected in Nov. 1991 for the same regional as the Exxon data which provides better coverage and imaging of Oligocene to Recent sequences.
