Meteoritics

R. Hewins is an experimental meteoriticist working on pre-planetary solar system materials and is a world authority on chondrule formation mechanisms. J. Delaney is a meteoriticist working on both "planetary" petrology and on fundamental new microanalytical approaches to determining the chemical state of elements. Hewins, Brigitte Zanda (Visiting Professor), Delaney, and Gregory Herzog (Professor, Department of Chemistry) and their students represent a research group within the department focussing on Solar System evolution and its significance for the formation of the earth.
