Kens' Kudos and Awards

Graduate Students

Kelsey Bitting was awarded a University Torrey Fellowship for 2005-06 from GSNB.  This Spring, Kelsey was awarded a 3-Year National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Kelsey received a scholarship award from the Weimer fund of SEPM and a graduate student research grant from GSA.

Joe Boesenberg was selected as a member of the 2005 joint NSF-NASA funded ANSMET (Antarctic Search for Meteorites) team from Nov 2005-Jan 2006. This year ~240 meteorites were recovered.

Ryan Earley was awarded a Chevron internship for Summer 2006.

Aurora Elmore was awarded a University Fellowship for 2005-06 from GSNB. Aurora also received a travel grant from GSNB to present a poster at this years AGU (see abstract).

James Foote was awarded a University Fellowship for 2005-06 from GSNB.

Esteban Gazel Dondi received a Pre-Dissertation Research Award from GSNB for Summer 2006, for fieldwork on the Miocene Volcanic Arc, Central America

Ashley Harris has received the Exxon/Mobil Fellowship for 2006-07.

Alissa Henza was awarded a GSA Graduate Research Grant for her work on rock fabrics.  Alissa also received support to attend an IRIS consortium workshop.

Sam Henderson received a research scholarship award from US Science Support for his work on “The Accumulation History on Eirik Drift during the Quaternary: Implications from Grain Size Measurements; the project is in collaboration with Jim Wright.

Alicia Kahn received the John Mason Clark 1877 Fellowship in Paleontology and Geology.  Alicia received a research scholarship from Chevron this year and has accepted an internship for this summer with the Chevron Stratigraphy and Biostatistics team. Alicia also received a travel grant from GSNB to present results of her work at SEPM.

Andrew A. Kulpecz was awarded a DOSECC (Drilling Observation and Sampling of the Earth's Continental Crust) Internship for the summer of 2006. The award will fund Andrew’s research on the Chesapeake Bay Impact Structure and travel to Western Michigan University to work with colleagues.

Deniz Kustu, new graduate student for Fall 2006, has received from GSNB, a University Fellowship for 2006-07.

Fara Lindsay received the Bevier ABD Fellowship for 2006-7 from GSNB.

Svetlana Misintseva was awarded a CHRONOS internship for Summer 2006.

Godwin Mollel was awarded a Baldwin Fellowship from the Leakey Foundation 2005-06.

Don Monterverde was awarded a Part-Time Lecturer Professional Activities Fund Award for his presentation at the Fall AGU.

Lauren Neitzke has been awarded a University Fellowship from GSNB for the 2006-07. Lauren also received a travel grant from GSNB to present a poster at this years AGU (see abstract).

Alex Nikulin, new graduate student beginning Fall 2006, has received from GSNB, a University Torrey Fellowship for 2006-07.

Ian Saginor was awarded a K-12 NSF Fellowship for 2006-07.  It appears that Ian will be receiving a 2nd year Fellowship for continued K-12 work. Ian Saginor received a pre-dissertation research award from the GSNB for Summer 2005.

Morgan Schaller received a travel award from GSA to conduct reconnaissance fieldwork on the groundwater interactions of a small closed basin lake in Kenya, summer 2006.

Undergraduate Awards

Emily Bjonnes received the 2006 Vinton Gwinn  Award for outstanding undergraduates engaged in independent research.

Coley Campbell received a scholarship from the Steven K Fox Fund to participate in the Lehigh University Geology Field Course in the northern Rocky Mountains of Wyoming and Idaho

Katelynn G. Coleman received a scholarship from the Steven K Fox Fund to participate in the University of Arkansas Geology of the Northern Rockies.

Michael Durcanin received an undergraduate GSA research award for his study of the petrology of volcanics from the middle Pleistocene Kapthurin Formation, Kenya.
Theresa Johnson received a Bigel Scholarship from Anthropology for her Senior research on the KBS Tuff, Kenya.  Theresa also received a scholarship from the Steven K Fox Fund to participate in the attend Boise State's Sardinia field program.
