FUTURE ACQUISTIONS
We will continue to serve as a focal point for the acquisition and curation of Rift-Drift cores from the U.S. Atlantic margin.
In 2006, we acquired the Chesapeake Bay Impact Structure Eyerville, VA cores (post-impact/post Chickahominy Formation sediments) and re-acquired the Leg 150X cores. Full documentation is provided in the CBIS and coastal plain section of this site.
In 2006 we also acquired several continuous cores drilled by ARCO ion Alabaman courtesy of G. Baum and G. Keller: St. Stephens Quarry and Bay Minette. Details of these cores will be posted in fall 2006.
The NJGS will fund the USGS Eastern Regional Mapping Team (G. Cobbs III, Head Driller) to continuously core a 1000 ft corehole at Medford, NJ in spring 2007 and these cores will be permanently archived in the repository.
We will acquire the impact section of the Eyreville, VA CBIS in late 2007 to early 2008. The recovered section consists of 4337 ft (1322 m) of impactites beneath 1456 ft (444 m) of post-impact continental shelf sediments.
We currently have acquired additional space in building 4108 courtesy of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Rutgers University. This space will be enclosed in a secure cage in fall 2007 in preparation for acquisition of the Eyreville, VA CBIS cores.

One of the greatest hits of the coastal plain drilling project: the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary at Bass River corehole (Olsson et al., 1997, 2002)
