Impact
craters. Meteor crater (above) in Arizona is a ~1 km wide crater
produced by the impact of a small meteor. Manicouagan crater (below)
, partially filled by a reservoir, in Quebec, Canada, was produced by the
impact of a small asteroid or comet. Although the crater formed in the
Late Triassic, its absolute age (214 Ma) means that the impact that produced
the crater could not have caused the Triassic-Jurassic mass extinction.
